Description/Duties :
|
Perform veterinary technical work such as
administering anesthetics, medications and injections; surgical
preparations; drawing blood; and performing routine radiology and
laboratory analysis of specimens in a rodent facility. In addition, this
position will include interaction with and training of research personnel.
Assist the clinical veterinarians in identifiing disease problems in a
rodent research facility. Monitor rodents for clinical signs of disease,
either experimentally related or spontaneous. Collect and analyze samples
to monitor laboratory animal health. Perform minor surgeries including
trimming teeth, etc. Assist with surgical procedures as necessary
including administering anesthesia and preparation of operative field for
aseptic procedures. Assist with necropsy procedures and the distribution
of tissues. Maintain daily records regarding individual rodents including
weights, procedures performed, medication administered, etc. Provide
monthly morbidity and mortality reports to the clinical veterinarian.
Maintain inventory of drugs and reagents.
