|
The incumbent functions as a Communications Department Duty Communications Watchstander. The incumbent transfers information using tactical or commercial satellites on a global basis. Operations are routinely performed within a battle group with specific circuits and protocol that must be utilized. Complies with COMSEC and cryptographic equipment requirements on both transmission and receipt of communication signals. Uses a high degree of expertise to operate and maintain radio cryptographic equipment. Utilizes Navy Telecommunications publications (NTP’s), Naval Warfare Publications (NWP’s), fleet Telecommunications Publications (FTP’s), Communications Information Bulletins (CIB’s), communications Information Advisories (CIA’s), and Current General Message Files (GMF’s) to draft communication plans and messages. Assigned systems include, CUDIXS, MDU, MDS, NOW, GATEGUARD, and NAVMACS V-II, MISNS. Maintains databases on assigned communications computer systems and utilizes a wide variety of diagnostic programs, electronic test equipment and tools to perform troubleshooting, maintenance and repair of Command, Control, Communications, Computer and Intelligence Systems, including equipment used for detection, tracking, recognition and identification. Systems to be kept fully operational include secure Fleet Broadcast (FLTBROADCAST) Satellite Communications channels for classified traffic, CUDIXS full period termination to send and receive general services (genser) traffic and tactical information via OTCIXS/JOTS, if equipped. Incumbent is assigned as department tag-out/lock-out coordinator. The incumbent is required to work aloft and over the side while maintaining antenna and other topside systems. Performs other duties as assigned.
